We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced professional who can navigate the complexities of international logistics and customs regulations - while keeping a smile on your face! If you know your HTS from your Schedule B and view a tariff schedule not as a threat, but as a fun challenge, we want you to join our team!
This role is for a Logistics and Import/Export Specialist to manage the flow of goods across international borders efficiently, compliantly, and with an enthusiasm to navigate the ever-changing landscape of global trade. The primary responsibility for this role will be to oversee and execute the movement of goods to/from our Denver facility, and to/from US launch sites. This includes import of Exolaunch hardware from Germany to the United States, and supporting our global customer base with import of their satellites into the United States for launch.
This is a full-time position located in Denver, Colorado, USA.
Logistics Coordination:
As a member of the global Logistics department within Exolaunch, coordinate and execute shipments with internal teams (Logistics, Supply Chain, Mission Management), freight forwarders, and customs brokers to ensure timely and cost-effective movement of goods.
In cooperation with the Berlin-based Logistics Team, coordinate deliveries that include Exolaunch hardware and customer satellites and equipment to and from the EU, and globally based on customer location.
Prepare and ship goods from our Denver office, and receive goods shipped to our Denver office.
Travel to launch sites (and their nearby ports of entry) to facilitate incoming and outgoing shipments, including Exolaunch equipment and hardware, customer satellites, customer GSE, etc.
Track and trace shipments, resolving delays or issues promptly and professionally.
Customs Compliance & Documentation:
Prepare, review, and manage all necessary import/export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, Certificates of Origin, and Bills of Lading (B/Ls or AWB's).
Ensure strict compliance with all U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, international trade laws, and internal compliance standards.
Provide expertise with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes to ensure accurate classification of all imported and exported goods, minimizing duty exposure and compliance risk.
Tariff & Duty Management:
Calculate, analyze, and manage import duties, tariffs, and fees, seeking optimization strategies for the company and our customers (e.g., Duty Drawback, Temporary Importation Under Bond, Exemptions).
Stay current with changes in U.S. and foreign country trade policies, tariffs, and non-tariff barriers, providing timely internal updates and recommendations.
Record Keeping:
Generate reports on trade metrics, duty spend, and compliance status.
Maintain detailed and organized records for all import and export transactions, supporting invoicing and being prepared for potential internal or external audits.
Required Skills & Qualifications
5+ years of experience in import/export logistics, customs compliance, or global trade operations within a US-based company.
Demonstrated expertise in:
HTS classification and binding ruling requests.
U.S. customs regulations (19 CFR).
Calculating and managing import duties/tariffs and understanding their impact on landed cost.
Exceptional attention to detail, organization, motivation, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to travel to launch sites and ports of entry to receive incoming shipments and prepare outgoing shipments.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
The "Soft" Skills
A Curious Mind: A genuine curiosity and proactive desire to stay ahead of rapidly changing customs regulations and global trade policies. You view continuous learning as part of the job description.
Patient, Proactive and Resourceful: You don't wait for problems to arise; you anticipate them and develop solutions. You communicate openly and patiently explain to stakeholders the implications of various solutions. If you don't know the answer, you know where to find it.
Sense of Humor: The trade world can be complicated (at least to those of us that aren’t experts!). We're looking for someone who can tackle challenges with a positive attitude, lighten the mood when necessary, and not be afraid of a good logistics pun.
