Job Description

Under general supervision, operates light and medium vehicles and equipment within the Public Works Department; performs general construction, maintenance, and/or sanitation duties; performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operates heavy equipment; supervises employees assigned to equipment.Assists in performing regular public works duties when equipment is not in use in the respective Division within the Department.Makes minor repairs on vehicle and equipment.Maintains clean and sanitary vehicle and equipment.Performs general construction and maintenance duties.Ensure work area is clean and all equipment and tools are properly stored after use.Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies such as weather events, etc.Reports major repair needs for immediate correction.Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Work is thorough, timely and reflects follow-through to completion.Complies with departmental performance standards.Demonstrates willingness to undertake duties as assigned.Demonstrates the ability to assess site conditions and suggest solutions.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
