Job Description

At Baird, Hampton & Brown, our mission is building partners through creative, sustainable engineering solutions, and honest, long-term relationships.  With over 30 years in the business, we understand that a solid foundation is necessary in every aspect of what we do.  We support our team members in pursuing excellence in their fields and balancing their lives.  At every stage, we serve our clients with integrity, communication, and involvement.  As a team member, you can trust BHB to champion our core values, which leads to healthy, mutually beneficial relationships and services of the highest caliber.

We are currently seeking a full-time, exempt Professional Landscape Architect. As a mid-level position, the Landscape Architect will plan and design landscapes for projects such as parks and recreation, commercial buildings, residential subdivisions, hospitals, medical office buildings, schools, and industrial sites.  The ideal candidate will be versed in urban planning and land planning. You will work closely with Engineers, Architects, and Surveyors, to design and produce landscape plans that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional while following local ordinances.  During this time, you will also develop professional skills, learning the business and client side.

In this role, you can expect to perform the following tasks.  This is not an exhaustive list:
  • Prepare landscape plans, specifications, and cost estimates utilizing AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, meeting project deadlines and municipal ordinances.  This may include dimension control, grading, site development, planting, plant lists and specifications, tree preservation, demolition, and project manual documents.
  • Maintain a foundational understanding of local municipal codes and regulations, applying this knowledge to ensure that proposed design solutions comply with zoning, permitting, and environmental standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Confer with clients, engineering personnel, architects, and municipal staff on landscape expectations and requirements.
  • Produce color graphic renderings of landscape designs using SketchUp, AutoCAD, Land FX, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar design software.
  • Present project plans or designs to clients and public stakeholders, such as government agencies or community groups.
  • Perform on-site inspections to determine opportunities and constraints.
  • Possess detailed knowledge of plant materials: trees, shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, groundcover, etc.  Must also possess knowledge about growing conditions, such as sunlight and watering requirements, growth potential, and which plants are native.
  • Identify and select appropriate sustainable materials for use in landscape designs.
We require:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
  • Professional Texas Landscape Architect license.
  • At least four years of landscape architecture experience and/or land planning experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Bluebeam, Sketch Up, and Land FX.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.  Connections are a critical part of how we work.
It helps to have:
  • Membership in AICP, ASLA
  • Experience managing a team of Landscape Architects, Designers, and Interns.
Physical Demands
This position is primarily sedentary with long periods of sitting, but occasional walking and lifting up to 25lbs may occur.  Occasionally bending, squatting, and reaching overhead may also occur.  Additionally, extensive computer usage is required daily.

Position Type and Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position, with an expectation to work 40 hours per week. BHB offers flexible scheduling options, including five 8-hour days or four 9-hour days with a half day on Friday morning. While the start and end times of the workday can be adjusted, employees are expected to establish and maintain a consistent schedule which must encompass the core business hours of 9am – 4pm.   Although overtime is not required, it is requested at times to meet our clients’ needs.

Benefits
We believe that taking care of our employees and their families is vital to our success.  For several years, BHB has been awarded the titles of "Best Place for Working Parents" and Zweig’s "Best Firms to Work For."
BHB sponsors employee medical, dental, vision, short-term & long-term disability, and basic life insurance, as well as subsidizing a significant family portion. BHB also offers voluntary life and disability insurances, paid parental leave after 12 months of employment, a PTO bank immediately available, & 401(k) matching.

We believe in lifelong learning: providing many internal & external training opportunities including formal & informal mentorship programs.  We sponsor multiple professional & industry memberships, licensure, and leadership opportunities.  More details regarding benefits will be provided during the interview process.
