Job Description
The Plumber performs maintenance and repair work on the vessel’s piping systems and related systems. They execute work orders from the Accommodations Maintenance Manager, demonstrate skilled workmanship, and operate in accordance with safety, environmental, and quality standards. The role may involve work in confined spaces and various shipboard locations and requires the ability to work independently or under supervision as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out maintenance, repair, and installation tasks on piping networks, pumps, valves, and associated components for plumbing, sanitary, pool, and environmental systems.
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and diagnose issues, and coordinate with supervision for parts and methods.
Maintain clean and organized workspaces; properly store tools and materials after use.
Adhere to safety policies and use PPE; report hazards and comply with SQM and environmental policies; notify supervisor of malfunctions in environmental systems.
Participate in on-board training, meetings, and required activities; provide guidance to less experienced technicians as appropriate.
Assist Accommodations Maintenance Manager and other supervisors with tasks as required.
Ensure compliance with ISM/ISO, SQM, USPH, environmental, and safety policies.
Support additional tasks as directed by supervision.
May work alternative shift schedules as required.
Qualifications & Training
2 years previous experience onboard vessels
Welder certification (DNV, Lloyds) desirable
Completed STCW95 and social responsibility training
Plumbing maintenance, pipe fitting, welding, replacement of fittings, leak testing
Reading blueprints, diagrams, and maintenance manuals
Safe operation of hand and power tools; basic diagnostic skills
Strong safety mindset; good communication and teamwork; reliability; adherence to procedures
Language Requirements
English proficiency for speaking, reading, and writing to understand procedures, communicate with crew and supervisors, and document work.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Physical tasks: Stand, walk, bend, reach, use hands to manipulate tools; frequent lifting up to 50 pounds; ability to work in confined spaces; climb ladders; tolerate heat, cold, and vessel movement
Visual and sensory: Good vision (near and far), depth perception, color vision; fine motor coordination
Work environment: Shipboard environment; exposure to water, chemicals, noise; may require working in engine rooms, galleys, pools, and other areas
Emergency readiness: Able to participate in life-saving procedures and drills; follow instructions during emergencies
Accommodations: Willingness to accommodate reasonable accommodations where applicable
