The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA, dedicated to excellence in education. The Director of Creative Arts at Park is a member of the school’s Summer Program and reports to the Assistant to the Head of School for Finance & Operations. This part-time, 30-hour-per-week, 12-month, exempt position comes with the responsibility of working with the Creative Arts at Park program to create a joyful and enriching summer experience for campers, families, and counselors  in support of the school’s mission and values. 

Responsibilities

 

The Director of Creative Arts at Park (CAAP) is responsible for planning, directing, and implementing all aspects of the Creative Arts at Park Summer Program. This role ensures a vibrant camp experience for campers and staff while managing year-round operations, communication, compliance, and program growth. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Plan, direct, and oversee all aspects of the  Creative Arts at Park (CAAP) summer program
  • Ensure the program operates efficiently, effectively, and in alignment with the School’s mission and values
  • Supervise the Asst. Director of Creative Arts at Park and provide strong leadership to Department Heads and Counselors through staff orientation, in-person meetings, and ongoing communication throughout the year, ensuring strong engagement of the program. 
  • Promote respect, honesty, responsibility, care, joy, and excellence among all children and staff. 
  • Maintain and support the counselor and camper community and culture that fosters inclusivity, belonging, self-expression, and creativity.
  • Communicate with families and campers year-round to answer questions, provide logistical information, and promote the program. 
  • In partnership with the Asst. Director of CAAP, set the vision for the marketing, advertising, and communication efforts for CAAP
  • In partnership with the Asst. Director of CAAP, actively participate in the management of CAAP’s customer relationship management (CRM) database (CampBrain)
  • In partnership with the Asst. Director of CAAP, oversee all CAAP registration, including all subsequent changes 
  • Collaborate with the Asst. Director of CAAP to create and distribute financial aid letters to qualifying families. 
  • Collaborate with the Director of External Programs to: 
    • Create employment contracts for staff, including determining compensation
    • Process all required HR documents for all staff
    • Maintain CAAP employee handbook
    • Approve bi-weekly timesheets from counselors 
    • Complete end-of-summer employee evaluations 
    • Oversee recruitment, hiring, and role assignments for counselors 
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School for Finance & Operations and the Controller to manage, set, and oversee the  Program budget and expenses
  • Collaborate with members of the Business Office to: 
    • Reconcile credit card statements
    • Reconcile monthly bank statements
  • Oversee the regulatory compliance requirements for the program, including obtaining a license to operate from the Brookline Health Department
  • In partnership with the Asst. Director of CAAP, ensure all medical paperwork is received and current
  • Meet the essential expectations of the Park School Essential Expectations
 

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor's degree with preferably 4+ years of summer programming experience
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, allowing one to work effectively with colleagues, parents, and students
  • Must be energetic and enthusiastic about participating in arts activities 
  • Demonstrated participation in the local arts community is preferred
  • Prior experience working with children required (prior arts camp experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in a culturally diverse community, including diversity of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, language, and gender identity
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with parents, staff, and students 
  • Ability to learn and manage a database software management system
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and function efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Must possess strong program management, leadership, people, and team-building skills as well as effective organization and skills 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to sit and stand for 30 minutes at a time. 
  • The ability to position oneself  (e.g.,  stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) around the office to access file cabinets and necessary supplies.
  • The ability to consistently operate a computer. Proficient or the ability to  learn Google tools  and other applications as adopted by the school
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The ability to deploy situational awareness to preserve the safety of students and community members.
  • The ability to think independently and collaborate in a team environment.
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment

  • The compensation range for this role is role-based, ranging from 60,000 to 65,000  annually. Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees received, years of teaching experience,  and other considerations permitted by law. The comprehensive compensation details, inclusive of any additional benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.
