Summary : Compass Strategy Solutions, LLC, is seeking a highly qualified Background Adjudicator to provide adjudications of full-scope background investigations for a federal law enforcement agency in the Washington D.C. area.  This contract position requires formal investigative training, a minimum of 2 years of specialized experience in adjudications or investigative roles. Preferred candidates will bring demonstrated expertise in federal, military, or law enforcement background investigations, and possess a strong understanding of suitability criteria and investigative methodology.

Active or favorably adjudicated Public Trust clearance is required.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The adjudicator will be assigned cases by the Senior Adjudicator containing the applicant’s personal history statement. The adjudicator:
  • initiates a WALES/NCIC (Washington Area Laws Enforcement System/ National Crime Information Center) criminal background check, Department of Motor Vehicle check, credit checks and checks through local law enforcement agencies.
  • evaluates and adjudicates documentation for purposes of employment suitability based upon the law enforcement agency Employment Suitability Standards.
  • conducts interviews and reconciles information regarding the candidate’s background.
Upon the conclusion of an Assessment Center, reviews all polygraph, psychological, and medical reports, comparing all information that has been provided by the applicant and identifies any discrepancies.
  • uploads all required documents to the case management system and assemble case jackets for eligible candidates.
  • may be required to conduct criminal name checks for special events as directed by the law enforcement agency division commander.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of recognized training programs such as:
    • Federal Background Investigator Training Program (FBITP).
    • Local law enforcement training academy.
    • Reid School.
    • Certified investigative training courses.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following roles:
    • Background Investigator.
    • Criminal Investigator.
    • Security Specialist.
    • Adjudicator (Experience must be with a federal agency, law enforcement department, approved contractor, or military investigative unit).
  • Minimum of 5 years of general experience in adjudicative and investigative support.
  • Favorably adjudicated full-scope background investigation , including FBI fingerprint check.
  • Proven ability to:
    • Conduct investigatory interviews with applicants and third parties.
    • Perform complex personnel security investigations.
    • Analyze results from polygraph, psychological, and medical evaluations.
    • Initiate credit and criminal checks.
    • Interpret and evaluate evidence to assess suitability for employment.
  • Strong working knowledge of local, state, and federal fraud statutes.
  • Ability to write formal analyses and investigative reports recommending case disposition.
  • High standards of integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Effective liaison and customer service skills for communication with:
    • Insurance claim services.
    • Legal and medical professionals.
    • Government and regulatory agencies.
    • Vendors, policyholders, and other stakeholders.
