The Assistant Athletic Director for Finance is a key member of the athletic department’s leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, purchasing, and financial reporting. This position ensures compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA financial policies and works closely with coaches and staff to manage resources in support of the department’s goals and strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
•Develop and manage the department’s annual operating and capital budgets in coordination with the Director of Athletics and college finance office •Monitor and track all revenues and expenditures across athletic accounts, including team budgets, scholarships, fundraising, and special projects •Prepare regular financial reports and analysis to guide decision-making by athletic leadership
•Oversee purchasing and expense approval processes, ensuring adherence to college policies and proper documentation
•Serve as the department liaison to the college’s Business Office and Advancement Office on all financial matters
•Assist coaches and program leaders with budget planning, reconciliation, and financial literacy
•Support financial aspects of revenue-generating activities including camps, rentals, and fundraising events
•Assist with game day operations, including ticket purchasing and reconciling gate revenue
•Contribute to NCAA financial reporting and compliance with audit standards
•Manage travel budgeting, per diem processes, and vendor payments in collaboration with relevant staff
•Evaluate financial procedures and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and transparency
•Participate in department meetings, planning sessions, and strategic initiatives
•Participate in search committees for new athletic department hires and contribute to hiring decisions that align with departmental values and goals
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, sports administration, business administration, or a related field (master’s preferred)
•Experience in financial management or a related field, preferably in collegiate athletics or higher education
•Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail •Proficiency with financial systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools particularly Workday.
•Demonstrated ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial stakeholders
•Knowledge of NCAA regulations and experience with athletic budgeting is preferred
•Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
